Originally by: Shadowsword The "official" story, as far as I remember it, is that someone in Bob died in an accident involving a car or a truck, that one single Goon made a joke out of it with an ascii truck animation on their internal forums, and that Bob, hearing about it, made it their personal goal to expell GS out of 0.0 and grief them out of playing Eve.
Later, there were strong rumors flying around that the Bob guy wasn't dead after all, and had just stopped playing Eve. (imho, this was just a propaganda ploy. Bob saw what a threat Goonswarm could grow out to be, and decided to nip that threat in the bud).
Then Goonswarm, weakened after a long fight with D2, and not as strong as it is now, got pushed out of Syndicate by Bob.
That is the reason Bob and GoonSwarm will fight to the death. Bob hate GS because they don't take the game seriously, and have a sense of humor that require a thick skin, and GS will never forgive Bob about Syndicate, where their new members with frigs and cruisers got mercilessly crushed by Bob's T2 fitted battleships fleets.
The beginning of THIS war was a bit different, however. Rewind back history to 9 months ago. Bob had finished digesting ASCN and was looking for it's next big fight, and was seen as the most powerfull force in Eve. The D2 powerblock in the north was hostile to Bob, and more or less neutral toward the RSF block. The RSF block was hostile to Bob, but had it's hands full with LV at the moment, and LV's defeat was becoming inevitable.
Bob, seeing that there was soon going to be only Bob, D2 and RSF as major players, decided that waiting to have the two powerblocks attacking together was a mistake. So Bob tried to help VL and kill RSF while RSF was busy. D2, who had a defensive agreement with RSF, and because it couldn't afford to have Bob + LV atacking D2 alone later, joined in, and the Eve War I began.
It was one goon who made the sig etc over the incident. But after bob after a short time of pretending to expel said member, they showed there true colours and were all laughing about it because it was funny, i think this was the first time the eve community got a taste of goon 'humour'.
Around this time i had the pleasure of the goon experience in local as well, where they carried on taking the mick out of dead people and also started ribbing me about a rl suicide because 'it's funny' , apparently.
Gs take the game extremely seriously so your spin on that is just plain amusing, ingame hate is a strong thing and if you do, maybe you should step away. Even with all the super personal insults and stupidity i have had thrown at me by them, i don't hate them. Wouldn't shake there hand or buy them a beer if they acted like that in rl but wouldn't waste my time hating some kids who just try to shock for thrills.
Although i have had the pleasure of meeting one decent non ******** goon in the year plus of being around them, not bad ratio for 5k members
